I don't think we can overlook the fact that higher ed is going to competency education.  Here in NH, one of our universities offers a totally competency/performance based degree program.  Let's face it, due to the cost of a college education that middle America can't afford, colleges know they have to change it up to sustain themselves in the long term.  Some higher eds in education programs are moving to competency based micro-credentialing in their graduate programs--interesting concept for those of us who want to see competency education find a space.  Otherwise how will we use the valuable know-how our educators have gained right now in the classroom?
